A tragedy in so many ways. Hard to say what would cause a mother to flip out like that … and she ain’t talking!

A new 5th Grade teacher at a Waco Montessori school pulled over to the side of the road on Monday and shot her 17-year-old son 10 times on his way to his first day at a new high school.
The incident began when somebody saw a white Hyundai minivan on the side of the road near the Lions Club in the 1200-block of East Frederick Street, KWTX reported.
The passerby called police and said the minivan was running and there was an unresponsive person inside it.
- “When law enforcement found the vehicle, all the doors were closed, the windows were rolled up, and the vehicle was running,” the arrest affidavit for 39-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Hunt said, according to KWTX.

McLennan County sheriff’s deputies found 17-year-old Garrett Hunt dead inside the vehicle, sitting on the front passenger seat, riddled with gunshot wounds.
Deputies found multiple spent shell casings outside the minivan, and a .40-caliber pistol with a spare magazine inside the vehicle, KWTX reported.
Authorities said that Hunt left the car running on the side of the road and walked into town after she murdered her son.
The arrest affidavit released on Tuesday said she encountered two people when she got to Riesel Square and told them her son needed help, KWTX said.
- Then the affidavit said Hunt told them her son was “with her mother in heaven.”
- “What have I done… this is not real,” she told them, according to the affidavit.
- Authorities found the woman wandering down the street in Riesel and took her into custody, KWTX reported.
McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara said that what happened to inspire the murder was a mystery to law enforcement.
- “At this point we don’t have a motive, we don’t know what happened, we don’t know what led up to this, it’s a big mystery, and that’s what we’re trying to determine, what caused this,” Sheriff McNamara told reporters at the first press briefing, KWTX reported.
- “We just don’t know at this point,” he continued. “It’s a very sad, tragic situation, I don’t know how else to describe it. We’re going to be working overtime trying to sort this one out.”
Then on Wednesday, the sheriff released more details about what happened when Garrett was killed, KWTX reported.
- “We’ve talked with her several times and she’s despondent over her son’s death, but won’t give anybody any explanation of why she did it,” he told reporters.
- “She picked [Garrett] up at his father’s home and started toward [Riesel High School] because it was the first day and she was going to register him,” Sheriff McNamara explained.
- “Then she pulled over, got out of the car, stepped back and shot the boy dead.”
- “She emptied the pistol into his body, 10 rounds. He never had a chance,” the sheriff added, according to KWTX.
- “She said she didn’t know why she did it, but I say you can’t shoot someone 10 times with a 40-caliber handgun and not know why you’re doing it,” he said.
- “One shot, maybe, but not 10, and the gun was empty because the slide was locked back.”
The affidavit said that when Hunt was questioned about shooting her son, she sobbed “I didn’t mean to, I didn’t mean to,” KWTX reported.
“I didn’t mean to, I didn’t mean to,”
Hunt was arrested and charged with murder on Wednesday.
She was booked into the McLennan County Jail where she remained in lieu of a $500,000 bond, KWTX reported.
Authorities said the family had recently relocated to the area from Andrews, Texas, KWTX reported.
Friends and family members have told investigators that they had no idea there were problems in the family.
