I see a lot of interest here for classic cars and truck. So, Janers, show us the cool old cars that you, your family or friends own now or have owned. The above pic is a 1951 Packard Deluxe. I bought it for $600. It was in great shape and the color as the one shown. It had a straight 8, three on the tree and armstrong steering. It had only 63,000 original miles when I bought it in 1970.
So show us what you have or had
In high school, I had the use of my dad’s 1961 Karmann Ghia. It was the same color as the one shown. There was a small compartment behind the back seat and I could sneak a friend into the drive in movie.
The first car that I bought with my own money was a 1953 Chevy Bel Air Sedan. I paid $25 for it. It had no brakes and the engine cratered after 5 days. I shoved it off the highway and hitchhiked home.
In 1972 I bought a 1961 MGA for $750. It was British Racing Green just like the one shown. It was never comfortable but it was crazy funn. I was driving from Dallas to Alamogordo when the water pump went out in Hobbs. I got it towed to Alamogordo and changed out the water pump myself. It developed further problems and I sold it to a buddy for $450.
I bought a 1969 Monte Carlo for my first wife. Same color as the one shown. It had a 350 cubic inch engine and 4-barrel carb. She took it with here when she went down the road.
In 2001 I bought a 1974 Cadillac Eldorado convertible. The big beast had 501 cubes of glory topped off with an Edelbrock 4 barrel carb. I added dual exhaust for a little extra muscle. Damn thing could pass anything but a gas station. I sold it in 2010.
Last summer I bought the above 2011 Camaro Rally Sport LT2. It has a V6, leather, full instrumentation and a killer stereo system. I may just take her out for a topless spin this afternoon.
