Time magazine’s 2019 Person of the Year, Greta Thunberg, revealed that she will be taking a break over the holidays to rest from her global climate activism.

The 16-year-old Swedish teen joined thousands of students in the Italian city of Turin Friday for a protest to push the country’s government to take greater action to curb carbon emissions, Reuters reported. She traveled to the city by train and car from Madrid after attending a United Nations climate summit in Spain.

Thunberg refuses to fly due to the carbon emissions from air travel.

The teen arrived in New York in August after crossing the Atlantic Ocean on an emissions-free sailboat. She then spent months campaigning and attending rallies in the U.S. Thunberg returned to Europe to attend the summit earlier this month, traveling again by boat.

“I will be home for Christmas and then I will take a holiday break because you need to take a rest.…….Otherwise you cannot do this all the time.”

2019 is almost over. We must make sure that 2020 is the year of action, is the year when we bend the global emissions curve.”

“We are going to put pressure on those in power, we are going to make sure that they will act and they will take responsibility.”
