A Texas woman found a 3.72-carat yellow diamond at the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas on Friday.
The 27-year-old wasn’t planning to visit the park when she visited Arkansas last week.
“I was just going to pick up a transmission that day, but my siblings were in town and wanted to do something fun together,” Miranda Hollingshead told the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism.
The family decided to go diamond searching at the park nearby.
After searching the 37.5-acre park for about an hour, Hollingshead took a break.
“I was sitting in the shade, watching a YouTube video on how to find diamonds. I looked over at my kid for a second, and when I looked down, I saw it mixed in with other rocks……. I shook my hand across it to make sure what it was, picked it up, and yelled across the field to my mom, ‘I think I got one!'”Miranda Hollingshead
The 3.72-carat diamond is the largest yellow diamond found at the park since October 2013 and the largest diamond of any kind found since March 2017.
Hollingshead and her son named the gem the “Caro Avenger.”
Hollingshead said if she doesn’t sell the diamond, she’ll probably have it mounted in a ring.
The Crater of Diamonds State Park is the only diamond-producing site in the world where the public can search for diamonds and keep what they find.
