Coffee Klatch: Grammy Award Weekend! Updated Music Selections

Hi, guys!……. Your open topic thread for today and maybe tomorrow is The Grammy Awards…..Remember when the Grammy’s gave out awards for songs that were actually good?…..Me neither!

Actually it wasn’t that long ago when the music that snapped up the hardware was really good and would stand the test of time.

‘Smooth’ From Santana was one of those songs.

“………..It won three Grammy AwardsRecord of the YearSong of the Year, and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. Not only was it the final number-one Hot 100 hit of the 1990s, it was also the number-two Hot 100 hit of the 20th century. “Smooth” is the only song to appear on two decade-end Billboard charts. As of 2018, “Smooth” is ranked the second most successful song of all time by Billboard.”

A sexy, steamy, smoldering Latin groove permeates the song…..Santana makes his PRS guitar scream….Matchbox 20’s Rob Thomas provides the vocals and wrote the song.

The video is shot in Spanish Harlem. The only thing in the video “whiter” than Rob Thomas are the white walls on that 54 New Yorker DeLuxe.

Man it’s a hot one
Like seven inches from the midday sun
Well I hear you whisper and the words melt everyone
But you stay so cold
My mu equita
My Spanish Harlem Mona Lisa
You’re my reason for reason
The step in my groove, yeah

And if you said this life ain’t good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
‘Cause you’re so smooth

UPDATE: Here is another great tune….

Herb Alpert’s “Rise” from 1979, received a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance……. He also won a Grammy in 1968 for “This Guy’s in Love With You”

Open topic…….Open thread…….Open sesame!
